MY MUSIC BIO

Leora has performed at many benefit concerts and rallies for forest protection and animal rights organizations, Earth Day events, SonomaCounty’s annual Health and Harmony Festival, and at the Sonoma County Music Association’s Women’s Music Showcase.

After receiving her degree in Environmental Studies and Sociology from U.C. Santa Barbara in 1990, Leora moved to Humboldt County on California’s North Coast to put her beliefs into practice.  For the next five years she served as a full time forest activist, working as a staff member and a member of the board of directors for the Garberville based Environmental Protection Information Center (EPIC), one of the grassroots organizations leading the litigation and public outreach efforts to protect the Headwaters Ancient Redwood Forest and the biodiversity of the North Coast.  She attended many national and international forest protection conferences, lobbied in Sacramento and with Save America’s Forests in Washington, D.C. and participated in many direct actions to blockade illegal logging operations.  Her activism led her to the Nevada Test Site, traditional Western Shoshone land, to protest underground nuclear weapons testing.  She also joined three caravan supply runs to Big Mountain, Arizona, delivering food and clothing to the Dine-Navajo Indians resisting forced relocation from their homeland.  These latter experiences blessed her with the opportunity to participate in and learn from Native American ceremonies and sweat lodges.

Living in a cabin in the woods without electricity or telephone and sleeping most summer nights outside under the stars and ancient trees, greatly influenced her strong connection with the Earth and Spirit and provided her with many quiet nights to learn to play guitar by candlelight and to begin writing songs to express her experiences.

In 1996, Leora relocated to Sonoma Countyand began studying healing work operating from the premise that when we heal ourselves we heal the Earth.  She is now a certified Transformational Breathwork Practitioner, facilitating individuals belief restructuring and emotional release work.  Many of her songs reflect her spiritual journey and her experience of conscious evolution, embracing the pain of the past and the creation of a better future. Leora’s uplifting songs grow out of her roots as a social and environmental activist and healer.

Rounding out her commitment to bringing the vibration of love to the planet, Leora has worked on several organic farms and is a certified raw/living foods chef helping herself and others achieve optimum health.  Activist, healer, expressive artist, live foods gourmet: Leora Havah serves up songs from the organic soil of her evolving soul. Her lyrics reflect her commitment to planetary stewardship and personal awakening, while her melodies transport you more deeply into yourself, reminding you of your own unity with all life.
